The microphones shipped Friday. I’ll be testing this week. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to put my audio engineering experience and tool set to good use, so it was exciting to be looking at mics and thinking through the logistics of capturing sound again. It’s going to take a couple of shoots to get the logistics worked out, but on paper it looks good so far.

I’ve been researching microphones lately. I need to find something well suited for on-camera interviews as part of the All That Glitters project. I was looking at shotgun mics, but learned today that they’re not ideal for indoor use, so I’m back to the drawing board with my research. Despite this tidbit of information, I plan to incorporate a couple of shotgun mics into my audio testing. All of the mics I already own are ideal for studio recording, but require close range – like in-your-face close. For this I’ll need something that can be a few feet away from the subject while still maximizing the signal-to-noise ratio.
Some burlesque performers have already begun expressing interest in participating, which is great. I’ll be working on scheduling this week while I wrap up getting my gear ready.

Ever since I mostly eliminated caffeine from my diet in December I only get headaches when a major storm front passes through. And that would be tonight. My head feels like a Mac truck is running into it, over and over and over.
I spent the weekend in New Hampshire to see my mother-in-law walk across a stage to be “hooded” with her PhD. 3 days, 2 flights, 320 miles driven. Considering all of the travel involved, everything went quite smoothly.
So I’m back, and once this headache works its way out of my system, I’ll be back to work and full steam ahead on my projects.

One of the downsides to having multiple external hard drives is the mess of power and USB cables required to connect everything. I decided to clean up my cable nest by building a box in which to hide it all.
