Background & Philosophy

Philosophy

Everyone does not perceive the same image as beautiful. We all have personal tastes and opinions. My goal is to create a unique work of art for each client, something with which they are utterly happy.

Of all the objects and beings available in the universe, why did I choose to focus on people? The human form is admirably dynamic. In mere moments a facial expression can change from one of sadness to that of utter joy, from frustration to relief, and from silliness to complete seriousness - all without a costume change. The same holds true for the rest of the body. A defensive pose can quickly change into an offensive attack. A relaxed, reclining figure quickly transforms into a jumping, shocked and hysterical figure when a spider crawls out from beneath the pillows. All of this happens while we watch.

It is these moments, these fleeting glimpses of character, beauty, pain and more that I strive to capture in photographs.

Background

In 2002 I purchased my first digital camera, the Canon G2, and began shooting anything and everything I could see. In 2003 my photographic interests narrowed to people, especially women, at which time I started searching for subjects. I quickly accomplished all I could with the G2 and entered the land of professional digital cameras with the Canon 20d and a handful of lenses.

Since then I have concentrated my work on a range of categories including glamour, pinup, artistic and erotic photography. I have also found myself at home photographing live events, especially burlesque and other dance or performance shows.

Prior to photography I worked in software product development and project management. In addition to heavy emphasis on internet and electronic marketing solutions, I have helped develop and launch new data and analytical reports that enable businesses to better track their sales performance. My industry experience ranges from on-line classifieds to the hospitality industry, as well as a brief stint with a startup vacation airline company. I maintain an on-line resume of my professional experience on my portfolio web site, WhatICanDo.com.

I also happen to hold a bachelor of music degree in classical music composition.

Click into the mind of me on my personal site where I expound philosophically on my Blog, post recent photos on my Photoblog, and make fun of myself in my Hair History presentation. Be warned! This site is not for children and not for the faint of heart or easily-offended. That being said, have fun: briancjanes.com.
